Sound Healing at Sanatana Yog Sandesh Amsterdam

What is Sound Healing

Sound healing is the use of the sounds of sacred instruments to release energetic blockages in order to induce an state of ease and harmony in our body and mind.

Sound shifts frequencies from low energy of guilt and fear to higher vibrations of love and joy and vice-versa. While there are many kinds of sound and all of them produce vibrations altering out brain waves. The sound vibrations are especially useful for healing the body. The water from our bodies is a great conductor for sound vibration. Vibrations travel through the body promoting energy flow, circulation and brings rejuvenation. Frequency of the sound synchronizes with the brainwaves and activates de-stressing response. Dr. Buathon Thienarrom is a wellness practitioner. She has an extend background in Nursing, Psychology, and Health Sociology and she started to use sound healing techniques with her patients. She explains that vibrations travel through the water in the body stimulating circulation, allowing relaxation and improving lymphatic flow. This particular type of sound healing has been found to reduce stress, anger, depression and fatigue.

” Learning to become a mindful living, is to connect your three mindful ways of: thinking, feeling and awareness; understanding the emotional alchemy; and empowering the mind. “, says Dr. Buathon.

The Ancient Origins of Sound Healing

The use of music for healing is not something new. Tibetan singing bowls and Aboriginal didgeridoos are the ancient examples where sound has been used for its therapeutic effects since thousands of years. The ancient Greeks used sound vibration to aid in digestion, mental disturbance and sleeping. Aristotle’s De Anima details how flute music could reach the soul. At end of the 19th century, researchers focused on proving the correlation between sound and healing. These studies proved that music could lower blood pressure, decrease pulse rate and assists the parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for digestion and some metabolic processes. By using particular combinations of rhythms and frequencies, it is possible to shift our normal beta state (alert, concentrating, reacting) to an alpha (creative, relaxed) and even theta (meditative state) and delta (deep sleep; where restoring and healing can occur).

Singing Bowls

In the Tibetan culture Singing bowls have been used since the 12th century. These metal bowls are of different sizes and each one produces special sound that relaxes the mind. As each bowl produces a unique vibration that works on different parts of the brain so different sized bowls are often used together. They work also on different parts of the body. The Bowls cause a light dream state and are placed on the body to promote healing.
